Allow microphone access when asked, or later in the Settings app. Choose the language you speak in Settings → Speaking language; it is separate from the interface language. Some languages download an Apple speech model the first time, so stay online for that step. After that, transcription runs on your device.
02Free trial and full version
EchoAloud is free to download and includes a 3-day free trial of everything. After the trial, the free version keeps recording and on-device transcription, with up to 3 minutes per recording; imported audio is not limited. The full version is a one-time purchase that unlocks longer recordings, AI organization, Chat and insights, Apple Watch and iCloud sync, and every feature we add in the future.
Bought it on another device? Open the purchase screen and tap Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account.
03Connecting your AI
EchoAloud works with your own API key from a provider you choose. Open Settings → AI, or the “Connect your AI” card on the home screen, pick a provider, create a key on its website, paste it and agree. If a request fails, check your provider balance and your network. Your recordings and transcripts stay on the device, so you can try again later.
04Apple Watch
EchoAloud requires iOS 26 or later; the watch app requires watchOS 10 or later. In the Watch app on your iPhone, open My Watch and install EchoAloud under Available Apps. Open it on the watch, allow microphone access and try a short recording. Recordings are saved on the watch first and transferred when your iPhone is nearby.
05Sync to Mac
Use the same Apple Account on both devices with iCloud Keychain turned on, then turn on Sync to Mac in Settings. Text syncs with on-device encryption; recordings and API keys stay on your iPhone. The Mac app will be available separately.
06Translation, export and deletion
Translation is under More on a note. Delete thoughts inside the app; with sync on, wait for the change to reach your other devices. Exports and device backups are separate copies.
